OMNISEC is a SEC multidetector (light scattering, viscosimeter, RI and UV) that can measure the absolute molecular weight of (macro)molecules (range 200 g/mol −107 g/mol). This is a significant step-forward with respect to standard SEC, based on concentration detection (RI and/or UV) that can only provide relative molecular weights determined by a calibration curve strictly dependent on the type of used polymer standards. Besides accurate values of absolute molecular weight, the instruments can provide mass polydispersity, gyration (Rg) and hydrodynamic (Rh) radii, intrinsic viscosity and info on conformation, structure (linear/branched) and composition. Such information can be obtained in water or organic solutions (chloroform and tetrahydrofuran as the most common ones, but also dimethylformamide and hexafluoroisopropanol). Solutions with a very low concentration (down to 100 ng/mL for 100 kg/mol polystyrene) are detectable by light scattering, and measurements can be performed up to 60 °C.
For non-standard uses (e.g., requests for feasibility studies or non-routine experiments) and for research projects, collaborations, and, in general, for any service not included in the price list, the fee will be determined on a case-by-case basis with the lab head with a customized quotation.
