Students of Materials and Nanotechnology visit the CISUP SEM Laboratory
During the course of Electron Microscopy of Nanomaterials held by Prof. Mauro Gemmi the students of the Master in Materials and Nanotechnology had the opportunity to be actors in an experimental session at SEM laboratory of CISUP equipped with a FEI Quanta 450 FEG. Thanks to the help of Dr. Gabriele Paoli, a CISUP technician, they have seen different SEM imaging methods, using secondary and backscattered electrons and they had opportunity to collect EDS chemical mapping on polished thin sections of rocks and meteorites. Some of the collected images can be seen below.
SEM image obtained with the backscattered electrons on a single chondrule of a chondrite meteorite.
Secondary electrons SEM image of an aggregate of pyrite microcrystals.
